About
Creating art and stories that connect us to what’s real.
Michelle Kalman’s abstract sculpture reflects the harmony, flow and fertility found in nature. For her, sensual shapes hold infinite meaning, metaphor and emotion to become touchable poetry. Her sculpture gives material form to spiritual inquiry and healing energy.
Acclaimed for large-scale clay pieces reaching over six feet, the Noyes Museum of Art described Kalman’s solo exhibition as striking “a delicate balance between the unaffected sensuality of Georgia O’Keeffe and structural rigor of Anish Kapoor” (2016). Her work is in private and public collections, including the Payne Gallery at Moravian University.
Kalman is currently writing a book-length memoir about becoming a self-taught artist. Her paper sculpture series continues the narrative of her creative life in three dimensions. The forms reference nests and pods to protect and grow potential and connection.
Kalman’s studio is a converted cow barn located outside of Philadelphia.
